Speech Level Singing was developed in the mid-20th century by legendary vocal coach Seth Riggs and is rooted in the principles of bel canto technique. SLS trains singers to use their voice as naturally while singing as they do while speaking—allowing the vocal cords and intrinsic muscles to function efficiently without excess tension. Because of this natural coordination, SLS is effective for all vocal styles, including pop, R&B, rock, musical theater, jazz, and classical crossover.
